As an Amsterdam professional photographer and resident, a lot of questions that come with the tulip season, especially the differences in places for photo sessions and also how to reach them. In this article, I resumed the difference between the tulip fields, tulip gardens, and the Keukenhof.
How tulip fields work:
All fields are private properties and the only living of a lot of farmers.
Advantages:
– Huge fields of tulips with a lot of rows
Disadvantages:
– No easy access by public transport
– No toilets or places to eat around
– Just one or two colors
Location:
Around 40km to 60km from Amsterdam (South or North area).
Multiple fields with multiple locations in the North and South area of the Netherlands.
Cold and windy:
It’s colder and windy than other places since it is a totally open place with just fields and no houses.
Even with 8 degrees, my clients used to wear dresses and normal clothes to look nice in the photos. A winter jacket is mandatory to have, so you can use it during the intervals to keep you warm when I’m not shooting.
Middle of nothing:
There’s no easy access by public transport and sometimes also by car.
On time:
During tulips season I do multiple sessions on the same day, so you need to arrive on time otherwise you will lose your session or the delay minutes will be deducted from the 1h session.
A non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total session value must be paid in advance for reservation.
