Keukenhof x Tulip Fields – THEY ARE DIFFERENT!
Planning a visit to the Tulip Fields or Keukenhof Park in the Netherlands? Where are they located? When is the best season to visit? I NEED to have a photoshoot in one of them! So, relax and let me explain everything to you! 😉
A lot of people go to the Keukenhof thinking that will find tulip fields inside. But nooops, the Keukenhof is a HUGE park of flowers (similar to a Botanic Garden). The Tulip Fields are large plantations were the farmers grow the bulbs, which will later be extracted and exported to the whole world.
So first let’s talk about the difference between Keukenhof and the Tulip Fields:
KEUKENHOF
KEUKENHOF is a huge park, think like a botanical garden but FULL OF TULIPS! Careful to not misunderstand “A LOT” with “A SEA” of the same type of tulips in one place, instead, the tulips are distributed in different parts on the Gardens of Keukenhof.
From normally March 21 to May 10 the Keukenhof Park is open from 08:00 to 19:30. This includes Sundays and holidays! Only there you can find the different colors and shapes of tulips, BUT… Always have a but right? The Park entrance is paid, and depending on the day and time, the Park will be crowded with tourists, everywhere, so sometimes it could be harder to take nice pictures based on all the people around or behind you!
Located between Amsterdam and The Hague, if you wanna go by car is easily accessible via motorways A4 (exit Nieuw-Vennep) and A44 (exit 3, Lisse). On the other hand, you can go by public transport. Not so fast like a car but a good way of getting to Keukenhof. You only need to travel to one of the departure locations and then take Arriva’s bus straight to Keukenhof.
Are available combi including transport + Keukenhof entrance ticket, so you don’t need to worry about how to get there, only go inside the bus and relax per almost 1h trip from Amsterdam to the Keukenhof. The bus will stop in front of Keukenhof Park, has no way to you be lost. All the prices for 2020 tickets and combi are below:

TULIP FIELDS
Now is Tulip Fields time! Where are they? With an option of 3 routes to visit the Tulip Fields in the region of Bollenstreek (Bulb Region) – it is one of the most visit fields in the Netherlands because it’s quite near Amsterdam and neighbor of the Keukenhof, the Park that we talked about above. The Bollenstreek is in an area of 30km of extension between Haarlem and Leiden.
The tulip fields are EXCLUSIVE in the SPRING!
The right point of the Tulips (can I say that??) is in the second half of April. Around day 30, more or less. Most of the tulip Fields are cut and only a few remaining in the first week of May. After that the last chance to see the tulips are going to Keukenhof before the closing date.
There are 2 kinds of Fields, the OPEN ones and the PRIVATE ones. The difference between them is:
PRIVATE FIELDS: You can find in some fields a lot of signs in Dutch telling that the entrance is FORBIDDEN. They are PRIVATE properties and the only living of a lot of farmers. So if the gate is CLOSED or have any sign with a “verboden toegang”, which means “no entrance”, please, DO NOT ENTER.
Some of the private fields allow visitors with the condition of paying a fee for entrance, and you are allowed by the farmer to go in the middle of the tulips, take pictures, some of them you receive a bunch of tulips but of course, always watching out to not hurt the beautiful tulips. Protection after all.
Most parts of the closed Fields allowed a maximum of 10/15 people per hour to go in the fields.
OPEN FIELDS: A little part of producers/farmers don’t care with tourists, so you can take some pics, but you are not allowed to go in the middle of the tulips, only in front of them in a safe area. And please, don’t step on or pull flowers without authorization too. Remember that in the Open Fields could have a lot of people.
If you read until the final and like my tips, please let me know in the comments? And of course, LETS SHOOT! You can send me an email for [email protected] for booking or talk to me in the WhatsApp: + 31 6 83 14 32 41
PS: Before someone asks, yes, I have a partnership with some farmers, because of that my pics are in the middle of the fields 😉
